YSU in 1950
 

The Dana Institute of Music was admitted to full membership in the National Association of Schools of Music, putting the Institute on the same standard as Julliard and the Eastman Schools of Music. Various student library drives were conducted to raise money for the construction of a new library. Army ROTC offered courses at Youngstown College for the first time, operating out of Pollock Hall. Professor E.B. Smith, Jr., of the History Department obtained his doctorate and the college mourned the sudden death of Louis A. Deesz, dean of the Rayen School of Engineering.
