YSU in 1941

Youngstown College mourned the death of Pete Penguin, the institution’s first live mascot, who drowned while pursuing a fish under the ice of a frozen pond in Crandall Park. A replacement bird was obtained, as was a female companion, Patricia Penguin. Charles F. Axtmann, dean of the business school, resigned in order to return to public accounting, while new faculty were added to the rolls.
