Research Services Policy
Reference services are available at the Reference Desk during library hours. Research Services closes 15 minutes prior to the closing of the Library building. See Library Hours or call the Reference Desk at 330-941-3686 for more information.
Library staff will assist all patrons who require help in locating information using the resources of the library, regardless of their affiliation with the University. However, the emphasis of our service is assistance and instruction to our students, faculty and staff.
Government Documents Reference
Maag Library is a Federal Depository Library. Federal Depository Libraries are required to offer free, public access to their government document collections. Public patrons may obtain telephone, email, or in-person assistance with government documents by contacting the Government Documents Librarian directly:
The reference collection consists of print and electronic information resources. Reference materials do not circulate but may be removed from Research Services for a short time with the permission of the reference librarian on duty. Materials in high demand or informational sources used frequently by staff to answer reference questions are kept on shelves behind the Reference Desk. Patrons may be asked for a photo ID to use some items.
Telephone reference service is available at the Reference Desk by calling 330-941-3686. The reference staff does not handle extensive reference questions over the telephone. In-depth questions are best handled through Ask A Librarian or an in-person visit.
Ask A Librarian
The reference staff provides an Ask A Librarian email service to the students, faculty and staff of Youngstown State University. As stated above, public patrons may obtain assistance with government documents by contacting the Government Documents Librarian directly: Christine Adams / email@example.com / 330-941-9681.
