Curriculum Resource Center Collections

The Wilcox CRC has rich and varied collections of various formats in the field of education.  All of these collections are geared for school and classroom use to support the curriculum and research of the Beeghly College of Education's faculty and teacher candidates.

Children’s Literature Collections

There are three primary areas of the CRC's Children's Literature Collections: jE, jF and Dewey.  The Children’s Literature Collections model those found in a good public school library.

  • jE
  • The jE or Juvenile Easy Fiction Collection is made up of easy-reader and picture books for young children.  jE books usually check out until the end of the semester.
  • jF
  • The jF or Juvenile Fiction Collection are books for older children and young adults.  They have much more text and fewer illustrations.  jF books usually check out until the end of the semester.
  • Dewey
  • The Dewey Collection is made up of non-fiction works suitable for K-12 students.  These books are generally composed of educational content.  Dewey books usually check out until the end of the semester.

Games, Kits and Realia

The CRC houses many board games, card games, puzzles, educational kits, flash cards, puppets, and other instructional materials for classroom use.  These items usually check out for seven days.

Leveled Reader Collection

The CRC Leveled Reader Collection is a small library of children's books which have been assessed and labeled with the appropriate reading level or level of difficulty, A through Z.  Instead of being shelved according to author or publisher, these materials are shelved based on the reading level letter, allowing teacher candidates to match the appropriate books to the child's grade or reading level.  Leveled Reader Collection materials usually check out for seven days.

Library of Congress Research Collection

The Library of Congress Collection houses titles relating to research and practice in education.  Further Library of Congress research materials are located at Maag Library.  Library of Congress Collection materials usually check out until the end of the semester.

Media Collection

The CRC Media Collection houses all of the CRC's media resources.  This includes videos (both VHS and DVD), audio recordings (both audio cassette and CD), and education-based software on CD-Rom.  Media Collection materials usually check out for seven days.

Test Collection

The CRC Test Collection is housed in a separate room in the CRC.  This collection includes testing instruments on a wide variety of topics, including various types of intelligence tests, instruments assessing abilities in a wide variety of content areas, and instruments measuring different aspects of child development.  The CRC Test Collection is restricted to BCOE faculty use.  Students must have written faculty authorization to use these materials.

Textbook Collection

The CRC Textbook Collection contains titles for all content areas in grades K-12.  Works include not only the student textbook, but often the teacher’s editions, manuals, answer keys and other supplemental instructional items that accompany a textbook series.  Textbook Collection materials all have call numbers which start with LT and are shelved with the Library of Congress Research Collection materials.  Textbook Collection resources usually check out until the end of the semester.
